There are several different methods being used to produce car haulers. The methods and materials will usually vary based on price and quality of the trailer
- The most common method is using a steel frame, aluminum exterior skin, and plywood screwed to the interior walls and floor. In a more outfitted car hauler the walls and floor are then covered with Aluminum sheeting on walls and rubberized flooring.
- Another very common construction method is an All Aluminum Trailer. The frame and all of the exterior skin will be made of aluminum. This construction will typically be the most expensive but will have the best resale value, lighter weight and greater longevity.
- FRP is not as common but a few companies do use this method.
FRP is fiberglass reinforced plywood. In FRP construction there is no wall framing. The large one piece wall is secured to the floor and ceiling acting as the full structure. This construction type will have no seams or fasteners in the walls. FRP is very durable but has downfalls when it does become damaged.
